For most of his life, seventeen-year-old Dylan has wrestled with his fears of Lake Michigan and the drowned boy he sees floating within the murky depths. At six years old, he lost his hearing to the water’s frigid grasp and witnessed it take the life of another young boy. Eleven years later the lake’s lethal reign continues, and Dylan is still haunted by PTSD, hallucinations, and a dangerous reputation amongst his classmates – and his own family. After years of being alienated by his town, Dylan is determined to stay under the radar long enough to get through senior year. But those plans fall apart the night the new girl appears to be drowning in the lake’s wicked tide. Dylan pushes his fears aside and jumps in to save her, but what he finds underwater isn’t a girl–it’s not human. Dylan knows not to trust his mind near the lake and dismisses the darkness in the new girl's eyes, carries her ashore and an unexpected bond forms.
As Dylan is swept up in the new girl’s pull, small town chatter stirs up the old rumor that he drowned the boy years ago. To preserve his budding relationship, he'll have to prove that he’s not the monster the neighbors say he is. But Dylan isn’t the only one with voices in his head. The new girl has secrets–big ones. Something is hidden right under the surface, and when it gets out, it will threaten much more than this small Midwestern town.
